Example of Tour Itinerary
 

Here is an example of a recent Itinerary that was prepared for a group of cousins from all over America who gathered together on Anglesey to visit their roots in the copper mining area of Amlwch.

08:45 Angharad and Gwyn, our driver for the day arrive at Menai Bridge.
09:00 Leave Menai Bridge at the latest
Travel via the old Mail Coach road from London to Holyhead and skirt the market and county town of Llangefni.
09:00 Arrive at Coedana Church. This is the church where John Jones and Ann Thomas were married in 1810. The church will be opened especially for us by Mrs Ponsonby the Church organist and by Mrs Ann Jones, the Church Warden.
09:50 to 10am Leave Coedana Church, heading North for Rhosybol.
10.00 am Arrive at Gorslwyd Chapel, Rhosybol. Margaret and Robert Jones’ grave can be seen herein the cemetery. The Chapel will be opened especially for us by Mrs Jones, the Chapel Secretary. Here we will be met by local historian Mr Les Jones.
10:30 Leave Gorslwyd Chapel accompanied by Les Jones.
10:35 Arrive at the old site of Pentregwian and The Marquis Inn where your ancestors John and Ann Jones lived during the early 1800’s. Hannah Jones was enumerated here on the 1841 Census. Les will be describing the site in detail for you.
11:00 Leave the site of Pentregwian and the old Marquis Inn.
11:10 Travelling over Parys Copper Mountain we arrive at The Sail Loft Heritage Centre in Amlwch Port where we have a cup of tea or coffee and have a look around the heritage centre.
11:40 at the latest we leave The Sail Loft
11:45 Arrive at St Eleth Church in Amlwch to be met by the Church Warden who is opening this very pretty church for us. In the cemetery is the grave of your ancestor John Jones. The map of the churchyard, which you have, was drawn especially for you by local Amlwch historian Mrs Margaret Hughes who has helped transcribe all the gravestones in the cemetery.
12:15 to 12:30 Leave St Eleth Church
12:30 to 12:45 Arrive at The Lastra Farm Hotel, a 17th century farmhouse offering excellent light lunches and evening meals. Here we will be met by Will Betws, a renowned and much liked local historian. He is a noted expert on the Copper Industry in Amlwch and he will regale you with tales from yesteryear during your meal.
13:45 Leave Lastra Farm accompanied by Will and we travel to Parys Copper Mountain where we will walk off some of our lunch!
13:50 Arrive at Parys Mountain and a short walk to the Open Cast Copper Mine accompanied throughout by Will who will describe in detail the working of the mine, its topography and its history.
14:30 Leave the Great Copper Mountain and Will behind. Heading now for Bodedern
15:00 Arrive at St Edern Church, Bodedern to be met by the Rev Dafydd Wyn William, who is also a very well known local historian and author. He is an acknowledged expert on Bodedern, the Church and the Presaddfed Estate. The Church will be opened especially for us by Mrs Eleri Williams, Church Warden. This church is where Robert Owen And Hannah Jones were married a year before they emigrated to America.
15:45 to 15:50 Leave Bodedern, passing the Presaddfed Estate towards Llantrisant.
16:20 Arrive at Llynnon Mill for a traditional Welsh tea and to see a traditional flourmill at work.
16:50 –17:00 Leave Llantrisant heading for Llangefni.
17:30 Arrive back at Menai Bridge via Talwrn and Llanddyfnan, site of the ancient church to St Dyfnan.
