Here are just a few on the most often used sources at our disposal in the local archives in Llangefni, Caenarfon and Bangor University Archives.

Census returns - every ten years from 1841-1901, giving details including name, age, occupation and place of birth of everyone in every house within parishes; these are available on microfilm or microfiche.

Parish registers - containing details of baptisms, marriages and burials in the parish churc

Non conformist registers - (mainly of pre 1837 baptisms and not for every chapel). Some of these are on microfilm.

Land tax records - Arranged by parish they are available for 1712-1869 (although not all parishes are covered by these dates) they give names of properties and the owners and occupiers.

Maps - Ordnance Survey, (1890s-1920s) tithe maps for most parishes (c.1840), and other plans such as of roads, bridges, and abandoned mines.

Council records - of Anglesey County Council, the Rural District Councils of Aethwy, Dwyran, Twrcelyn and Valley and the Urban District Councils of Amlwch, Llangefni and Menai Bridge and Parish Councils.

Education records - including in particular the school log books which started in 1863 which often give a fascinating picture of life in the area such as weather, local entertainments etc.

Crew lists - 1863-1913 for ships registered at Beaumaris.

Newspapers - Herald Mon 1930-onwards; Holyhead and Anglesey Mail 1882-85, 1886-96, 1898-1950, 1952- to date; Clorianydd 1893-1907, 1909-1915, 1918-1968; Holyhead Chronicle 1907-8, 1910-62, 1972- to date.

Other records - Court records including Quarter Sessions, electoral lists, (1832 onwards with gaps), records of the poor law unions, police records, the I.G.I, the Family History Society graveyard recordings, private/personal collections and Trade Directories.
