What I Do

Family History Tours
A visit to your ancestors past and coming into contact with the relics of the past, the houses, churches, cemeteries, chapels and farmhouses within which your Welsh ancestor spent their lives, “fleshes out the bones” of genealogy research. Nothing on paper compares with actually standing at the font where your Great Grandparent was baptised, or standing in the farmyard where your ancestor worked as an agricultural labourer all those years ago.

Hear the Welsh language spoken the same as it was when your ancestor was alive, and take home with you unforgettable memories of your own family history experience. Walk in your ancestors footsteps, and I will guide you along the way and ensure that you get the most out of your visit to Wales.

I plan family history tours on Anglesey, and also on parts of North Caernarvonshire, based on your own Welsh family history. I will guide you to all the locations connected to your ancestors, and show you places where they lived, worked and spent their last years.

My personal tours are tailored to fit your individual needs. Based on either your own research, my research on your behalf or a combination of the two, I will prepare, plan and provide you with an itinerary thoroughly researched to give you an experience of a lifetime.

Your itinerary is based on your personal family history. The touring day usually begins at 09:00 and ends at 17:30. We stop for lunch at one of the beautiful and unspoilt pubs on Anglesey. Half day tours start at 09:00 till lunchtime.

My Family History Tour involves substantial organisation and preparation, but is well worth the effort. Local historians, academics, theologians and local characters are sought and booked to talk on your tour,to add to your unique experience.

My goal is to enable you to get a genealogical experience, a journey into your ancestors past. When you leave for home, I want to know that you have connected with your Welsh roots in a way that no paper exercise will enable you to do. However much archival and computer generated research we gather as family historians, nothing compares to breathing the air that your ancestors breathed, walking the footpaths and country roads that they walked down.

Photographic/Video services
I will take photographs of your ancestors' birthplaces, their homes, the places they knew, the churches they attended and the cemeteries where they are buried.

Angharad also offers accompanied tours of Anglesey with a local historian and archaeologist, visiting interesting sites on the island. Gourmet picnic lunches and good weather will provide you with an unforgettable day out.

Penmon Priory
Possibly the finest example of a medieval Welsh Monastery in North Wales, Penmon offers exquisite architecture based in a tranquil setting. It is a pivotal site in the medieval history of Anglesey.

Aberlleiniog Castle
Built in the late eleventh century, Aberlleiniog is an impressive but little known Motte and Bailey Castle. A later stone Castle was built on the summit. The history of the Castle, and particularly the colourful connection with the Cheadle family, make this a fascinating site. www.castleuk.net/castle_lists_wales/

Hafoty
Hafoty is the finest medieval Hall on Anglesey, and was recently refurbished by Cadw.

Din Lligwy
Din Lligwy is perhaps the most atmospheric Celtic settlement in the area, its massive stone construction and setting lending it an air of mystery. The site was first excavated in the 1920s.

Parys Mountain
Featured in the Dr Who series and many other television programmes, the moonscape of Parys Mountain is an unforgettable and surreal sight. Once the largest Copper Mine in the world, it includes the great Open Cast and the Parys Windmill.

Bryn Celli Ddu
One of the island’s best known burial mounds, Bryn Celli Ddu is a Neolithic Passage Grave, similar to others discovered in Ireland.

Llys Rhosyr
A former home of the 13th century princes of Gwynedd, this site was discovered in the early 1990’s and is possibly the only site of it’s kind so far excavated. Visit the site with a member of the Excavating team, and learn more about medieval Anglesey.

Barclodiad y Gawres

Another fine example of a Neolithic Passage Grave, this site has an almost unique collection of Neolithic art.
