Angharad Holmes
Who I Am

I am a Welsh speaking genealogist and local historian. I was born and bred on Anglesey, as were my family, - at least the last 8 generations of them!

I live with my husband Adrian on the family farm at Sarnfraint in the parish of Penmynydd. I have been researching my own family history and Adrian's for the last 25 years. It is an ongoing project!

I have a Bachelor Degree in Social Science and I have specialized in Community History and Emigration. I am an experienced researcher, and I love a challenge.

My particular interest is Emigration from Anglesey During the 19th century. This interest has over the years brought me into close contact with fellow researchers in America, Australia, and New Zealand. Many of my own ancestors emigrated to America, to New York, Washington, Wisconsin, Illinois, Nebraska, Colorado and Iowa. Some emigrated to Melbourne and New South Wales in Australia.

I am a member of the Talwrn Archaeology group here in Anglesey, as well as a member of Gwynedd Family History Society, the Clwyd Family History Society and the Anglesey Antiquarian Society.

In my spare time I serve as a community councillor, and I support and occasionally contribute to Penmynydd's yearlong programme of Welsh cultural events.

Last but not least, once a month I enjoy the company of the Penmynydd and District Women's Institute.
